S’wak digital economy strategy in early stages of implementation, says CM

S’wak digital economy strategy in early stages of implementation, says CM

KUCHING: Sarawak's digital economy strategy is now in the early stages of implementation, with various projects and initiatives being rolled out by the state government. Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said one early initiative was an online identification and authentication system called Sarawak ID, which enables the public to access and use the state government's online services. "The Sarawak ID is the first step towards a service-based, people-centric government. Twenty government services are now online and registered Sarawak ID users benefit from the flexibility and ease of access to these services. "In the near future, more innovative, personalised and seamless services will be introduced," he said when opening the International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak 2019 at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching on Monday (July 8). As of July 1, there were 208,644 registered users of the Sarawak ID. Abang Johari said the state government had also implemented the Sarawak Pay e-wallet application for e-commerce purposes. He said Sarawak Pay was not profit-oriented but was...

ENGLISH FLUENCY PROMOTED IN AZAM RURAL SCHOOL OUTREACH PROGRAMME

ENGLISH FLUENCY PROMOTED IN AZAM RURAL SCHOOL OUTREACH PROGRAMME

MIRI: With rapid globalization, Sarawak needs to become a main driver and active participant in the digital economy, especially in its efforts to build up a workforce in preparation for Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0). Besides having a solid foundation in Science, Mathematics and Technology as well as necessary soft skills for IR4.0, students will have to build up their fluency in English to be able to participate in developments in these fields. To boost English language learning and fluency in rural schools, Angkatan Zaman Mansang (AZAM) Sarawak held a one-day “AZAM Rural School Motivation and Community Outreach Programme” on 11 April 2019 in Niah, Miri. The event which was held in collaboration with Subis District Office and supported by Faradale Holdings, also included the participation of AZAM members, AZAM Toastmasters Club and youth volunteer group AZAM Young Souls. “Today’s program for students as well as for parents today are in line with Sarawak Government’s objectives to enhance English language standards in Sarawak and,...

DCM: 200m more to connect Kanowit and Song by road

Masing prepares to cut the ribbon to declare open the Sengayan-Rantau Dilang road at Rumah Dominic Merikan KANOWIT: Road construction to connect Ngemah in Kanowit District with Temalat in Song District is now just 200m short of completion. Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing said the total 9.2km-stretch was the final section left to connect Kanowit and Kapit. “I spoke with Public Works Department (JKR) central region manager Cassidy Morris and he told me that the road would be fully completed in August next year. “That means I can drive on a tar-sealed road all the way from Kuching to Kapit,” he said when opening the Sengayan-Rantau Dilang Road at Rumah Dominic Merikan yesterday. However, the Minister of Infrastructure and Ports Development said the last 200m would not be connected until other works on the final section reached completed. “The contractor can connect it if we tell him to do so. But we have to wait because we do not want...

Enactus Foothill College Visits Enactus UNIMAS

Enactus Foothill College Visits Enactus UNIMAS

Last week was a very exciting week for us as we welcome our fellow members from Enactus Foothill College. The reason for their visit coming down all the way from California, U.S.A is for the collaborative initiative of the ongoing eco-brick project at Wizkids Extended Care Centre and to conduct an Innovation Bootcamp with a group of students from SMJK Kuching High. The 3-day session among the students of both Enactus Foothill College and also Kuching High School shows the initiative of Enactus Foothill College to do an Innovation Bootcamp where they learn how to do critical thinking on reaching solutions for a problem within the community in Kuching.  Not only that, they have visited places that Enactus Unimas has laid their projects on such as helping Sarawak Eco Brick Project, a project piloted by Enactus Unimas to tackle plastic waste pollution. We had a great time bringing our foreign friends around Kuching town to Waterfront, Sarawak Cultural Village and visiting...
