Financial management: 24 S’wak ministries, department, agencies rated ‘excellent’ – Auditor-General’s Report

The report released today said 24 ministries, departments and agencies performed excellently, seven were good and one was found to be less satisfactory. The top performing ministry was Ministry of International Trade and e-Commerce with a score of 97.43 per cent, while the Welfare Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development was at the bottom of the table with a score of 62.02 per cent. The number of ministries, departments and agencies that performed excellently had doubled from 11 in 2017 to 24 last year, while the number of those that were rated good had declined by half from 14 in 2017 to seven last year. Dr Sim: S’wak govt will not allow state to become developed countries’ rubbish bin

KUCHING: Sarawak government will not allow the state to become rubbish bin for the developed countries to dump their plastic waste, although the industry is worth RM30 billion in the country. Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian when contacted, told Borneo Post Online that Sarawak treasures its environment and developed countries must managed their own waste. “We will not support (import of plastic waste for recycling) as our environment and nature is priceless! We must learn from the mistakes of the western countries. Manage your own waste,” he said. Dr Sim was asked to comment on reports showing that Malaysia took in 754,000 tonnes of plastic waste from over 19 countries this year, with US, Japan and Britain billed as the highest exporters. Spending three weeks in Songkhla, Thailand is definitely an eye opening experience for 10 undergraduate students from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) who have just completed the student mobility program at Thaksin University from 23 June to July 13, 2019. The program was part of a joint collaboration between the Faculty of Language and Communication, UNIMAS and Department of Western Languages of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Thaksin University. During the three weeks’ program, students were required to attend classes, conducting presentations, participating in community projects and at the same time, were given the opportunity to explore beautiful tourism attractions within Songkhla, Hatyai, Trang and Phatthalung vicinities with their Thai buddies. KUCHING: Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah hopes that digital technology such as Virtual Reality (VR) will revolutionise the way the tourism industry operates in future. Speaking during the Beyond Paradigm Summit 2019 held at a hotel here last week, he said through VR technology tourists will be able to experience the destination of their choice even before making the trip. “This technology is especially helpful for elderly group of travellers who wish to travel to adventurous destination such as caves, underwater, mountainous areas and rainforest but are limited by their physical ability, health and age. Hence the VR technology would be able to give them the immersive personalised experiences as if they were there,” he added.
