Sarawakian, 13, among winners of Nasa contest

PETALING JAYA: A 13-year-old Sarawakian is among five winners of a patch design competition organised by US’ National Aeronautics and Space Administration (Nasa) for its mission to the moon and Mars in 2024. The design by Wei Rui Teng from Miri was chosen as a winner along with those by Ishhaq Ziyam of Sri Lanka, Neal Apte of the US, Madison Morgan of the US and Paxton Summers of the US. Their designs were picked from a pool of nearly 10,000 entries by children from the age of seven to 13 from around the world. The competition named ‘Design A Mission Patch’ was held online by Tynker, a Kids coding platform. The winners will have the opportunity to invite their fellow students to a video chat with a Nasa expert on its work and the details of space travel. SMK Tinggi Sarikei wins two gold medals at 3rd WYIE in KLCC

SARIKEI: Two groups from SMK Tinggi Sarikei won gold medals during the 3rd World Young Inventors Exhibition (WYIE), held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from May 2 to 4 this year. Their inventions ‘Bamboo Shoot Peeler’ and ‘Flexy Sock Aider’ won two gold medals in the industrial design category. KUCHING: The E-Sports (Electronic Sports) Games may very well be a huge boost to Sarawak’s socio-economy in line with the state’s digital platform initiative.A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was yesterday signed between Sarawak E-sports Association (Sesa) and StartUpBorneo.MY (StartUp Borneo) on the sidelines of the Sarawak Career and Training Fair (SCAT Fair) 2019. 27 FEBRUARY 2019 Master students and others got an extraordinary insight into how advanced space technologies can provide innovative strong solutions and new business on Earth, through presentations by seven world-leading space agencies at the International Space University last week. Organised by ESA, the 2019 annual meeting of the Space Agencies Technology Transfer Officers (SATTO) group was hosted by the International Space University (ISU) in Strasbourg. The President of ISU Juan de Dalmau opened the day with a warm welcoming note highlighting the importance of technology transfer and innovation from the space sector to our societies and the importance of a international, intercultural and interdisciplinary perspective to optimize the benefits.
