Beliau berkata demikian semasa ditemui Suara Sarawak dalam Majlis Pelantikan Sebagai Penganjur Bersama Kejohanan MYSS Football Pes 21 Stay At Home semalam. SCIB has ambitious plan for 2021

SCIB has ambitious plan for 2021

Sarawak Consolidated Industries Bhd (SCIB), which had recently become a billion ringgit market capitalisation company, is aiming to double its size in the next 12 months. The construction outfit, which is controlled by Datuk Mohd Karim Abdullah, (pic) is eyeing to take up bigger roles that include bidding for bigger infrastructure projects, embarking on mergers and acquisitions (M&As), as well as becoming project owners. Karim acknowledged that while the Covid-19 pandemic posed challenges to the construction sector, he is confident SCIB would be able to achieve 20% to 30% revenue and profit growth this year compared with 2020. This will be driven by its strong order book and new technology adoption that will improve its profit margins. “SCIB did very well in 2020 despite the difficult operating environment due to Covid-19. “Moving forward, SCIB is looking at engineering, manufacturing, construction and commissioning jobs to strengthen its orderbook and capabilities in the construction sector, ” he tells StarBizWeek. “The company has a long track record, especially...

Rainforest World Music Festival may go virtual this year due to pandemic

Rainforest World Music Festival may go virtual this year due to pandemic

KUCHING (Jan 28): The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture may consider organising the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) virtually this year due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Its minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the decision on whether to organise the prestigious festival will depend very much on the current situation of the pandemic. “It is not only RWMF that is affected; there are many other music events also affected such as the Jazz Festival and sports events such as Spartan Race and Sukan Sarawak (Suksar) and our planning will comply with instructions from the Sarawak State Disaster Committee. “At the moment, there is no plan to postpone the RWMF. We will be looking into organising a virtual RMWF but the experience and atmosphere will not be the same as the live presentation with spectators,” Karim told reporters in a press conference for the MYSS EFootball PES21 Stay At Home at D-Virtual Park in Samarahan today. On the complaint by hotel operators...

Shake-up at MDEC as 8 senior execs quit

KUALA LUMPUR – A number of senior executives from the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) have resigned, said people familiar with the matter. Rais has denied this, saying “Absolutely not true” in a text message to The Vibes. Rais was appointed MDEC chairman on June 13 last year. He is also chief executive of think-tank Emir Research and a former Bersatu supreme council member. The ones out are: – Chief operating officer Datuk Ng Wan Peng; – Chief financial officer Nor Faizah Othman; – Chief information officer Abdul Malick Aboobakar; – Investment development vice-president Wee Choong Hew; – Creative multimedia director Hasnul Samsudin; – Growth ecosystem development vice-president Norhizam Kadir; – Human capital director Suzana Nawardin; and, – Sharing economy ecosystem director Darzy Norhalim. Work in tandem with development strategies

By Indun Silong KUCHING: The sport facilities in Batu Kawa were constantly being upgraded so that they can be used by all age groups. Batu Kawa Assemblyman Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said they would continue to monitor the facilities needed by the public in the area. “This is why we are developing Ang Cheng Ho’s old quarry site into an innovation hub and sport that can be used by everyone in the community. “We will find a suitable model to change the site so that it can be used by the communities here,” he said while visiting the FIFA 21 E-Sports Competition (PS4) at the Batu Kawa Unity Hall last Saturday (Jan 9). According to Dr Sim, the government hopes that all the facilities provided will be used by the youths, middle-aged people and the elderly. He commented that virtual games are indeed the choice of young people nowadays. “Through this sport, players are able to learn about hand skills and eye speed. This has...
