KUCHING: A group of young singers and musicians from Sarawak are marking Malaysia’s 63rd National Day with a medley of popular patriotic songs over the decades, titled Carya Pertiwi, complete with a music video.
The medley includes Malaysia Oh Tanah Airku, Bahtera Merdeka (made popular by Datuk Ahmad Jais), Standing In The Eyes Of The World (by Ella), Warisan (by Datuk Sudirman Arshad), and Sejahtera Malaysia (by Roy).
Carya Pertiwi’s executive producer Aishah Alias said that the medley performed by multi-racial talents from various musical genres such as pop, rock and Asli music was truly a representative of Bangsa Malaysia.
“Besides celebrating the musical and cultural diversity of the nation and instilling the spirit of patriotism amongst music lovers, Carya Pertiwi also aims to showcase Sarawak’s homegrown talents who are aplenty. It is our aim to give fresh interpretations and arrangements of timeless patriotic songs for young Malaysians to enjoy,” she said in a news report yesterday.
Aishah added that her company Carya Collective aimed at discovering young and hidden talents from around the country’s largest state.
Carya Collective’s creative director Wan Mohd Nazrin Wan Afandi said that the company welcomed the production of musical projects by Malaysian talents from all walks of life.
“We invite as many young Malaysians as possible to come up with original musical ideas, and put them on the right platform so that music fans will discover and appreciate their creativity,” he said.
The musicians involved in Carya Pertiwi are singer-songwriter Steff Fleur, five-member folk band Rawi, and multi-instrumentalist Mous Thofa.
