KUCHING: Kuchingites as well as visitors will have the opportunity to experience a host of traditional activities during the Malay Heritage Festival 2018.
The festival, the fi rst of its kind held here, will take place this Saturday and Sunday at Satok Sports Complex, SLPAS field, with Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg slated to officiate at the event on Sunday at 7.30pm.
More than 15 heritage programmes will be held with the aim of making the festival a memorable one for locals and tourists, in experiencing Malay heritage nostalgia.
The festival is part of Kampung Heritage – one of the four components of Old Kuching Heritage which is one of the initiatives under the Sarawak Digital Economy Strategy for 2018-2022.
This development is planned and set up with the vision of transforming Kuching into a world heritage tourism site to attract tourists domestically, nationally and internationally.
This can be achieved by creating a competitive edge for Kuching as a tourism destination based on preservation of existing heritage.
With this holistic and systematic development plan by the Sarawak government, Kampung Heritage and local community stakeholders can plan and implement more projects to sustain the state’s socio- economy.
The four components are Kampung Heritage ( retention of Sarawak’s rural livelihood culture as a means of preservation of village civilisation); Heritage Trails ( historic heritage site becomes the main asset in heritage trails); Riverfront Heritage (enhancing the beauty of the Sarawak River while reviving the heritage of the river as a tourist attraction) and Business Heritage ( connecting all business centers in the area as a center for businesses to be developed).
